AUCKLAND, New Zealand, December 13, 2025 – Serato has released Slab, a compact MIDI pad controller co-developed with AlphaTheta Corporation, providing the first hardware tailored specifically for Serato Studio, the company’s beat-making digital audio workstation.

Slab centers on a 4×4 grid of RGB pads that respond to velocity and aftertouch, complemented by four touch-sensitive encoders, a large multi-function dial, an OLED display for real-time feedback, and a 130mm touch strip for modulating effects.

It supports core Studio functions including sample browsing, drum break chopping, step sequencing, finger drumming, stem separation, and performance effects such as pitch looping or filtering. The device connects solely via USB-C, without an integrated audio interface or traditional MIDI ports.

Native integration unlocks the full Serato Studio license when connected, while also supporting Serato Sample and Serato DJ Pro. A general MIDI mode permits mapping in other DAWs.

Priced at $329, Slab targets producers seeking tactile control in a straightforward package, positioned against more feature-dense options like Native Instruments Maschine or Ableton Push.

Serato CEO Young Ly highlighted the milestone: “For three decades, Serato has been a leader in providing best-in-class software for DJs and music producers, and now we are incredibly excited to dive into the world of music production hardware by working with AlphaTheta to co-develop Slab.”

AlphaTheta President Yoshinori Kataoka echoed the sentiment, noting the controller’s potential to bridge production and live performance for creators.

The launch aligns with updates to Serato Studio 2.5.0, Sample 2.2.0, and DJ Pro 4.0.1, introducing features like stems automation. Slab is available immediately through authorized dealers.

In a market where dedicated controllers have driven adoption for certain DAWs, Slab’s focused design and price may appeal to Serato’s established user base transitioning from DJing to production.
