BEIJING, December 21, 2025 – Tencent has secured use of Nvidia’s high-performance Blackwell AI chips—subject to U.S. export bans in China—through a rental deal with Japanese cloud provider Datasection, exploiting a gap in sanctions that permits access via overseas compute resources. The agreement, worth more than $1.2 billion, provides Tencent with substantial capacity from Datasection’s 15,000 Blackwell processors, hosted mainly in Japan and Australia.
