MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, November 28, 2025 – Google has tightened daily limits on its free tier for Nano Banana Pro, the experimental AI image generator, reducing generations to two per day from three as overwhelming usage strains servers.

The model, part of Google’s Vertex AI labs and built on a customized Imagen 3, went viral shortly after its November 22 debut, drawing millions of users for its quirky outputs that incorporate bananas into every prompt.

A support document updated Wednesday explains the changes: “Image generation and editing is in high demand,” and adds that “Limits may change frequently and will reset daily.”

The restrictions also apply to free Gemini 3 Pro usage, which launched November 18 with an initial promise of five prompts per day but now operates under variable caps.

Google has not specified a timeline for easing limits or expanding capacity, though the company routinely scales experimental tools based on feedback. The tool remains available at labs.google/nano-banana, where new free accounts start under the revised rules.

Such adjustments reflect the challenges of managing public betas in AI, where rapid adoption can outpace infrastructure. As demand persists, Google may prioritize paid tiers to sustain the service.
